A woman looking into the horizon

Frontals have become a common way to upgrade your look, but you can damage your hair if you’re not careful with them. Mistakes happen, but it’s better to practice properly and learn as much as you can about putting in a frontal to ensure you can get a flawless look.

Here are a few common mistakes people make:

1.    Wrong Application

The market is full of glued hair gels meant to make your frontals stick; however, a lot of women end up applying way too much adhesive resulting in a white hairline (which they walk around with).

One rule of thumb when it comes to hair products: Less is more. Always apply a very thin layer of glue on your hairline (stay away from your natural hair as much as you can).

Once the first layer is applied and dry, apply another layer. Now it’s time to finally stick in your frontal (the glue would’ve turned transparent by now).

Whenever you want to take off the frontal, don’t rip it off as it can damage your hairline. Use a remover or alcohol to slowly remove your frontal.

2.    Not Using a Water-Proof Adhesive

Another common mistake when applying frontal is using a non-waterproof adhesive; if you work out regularly, or sweat a lot, you need water-proof glue. Sweat can cause the lace of the frontal to lift; it’s wise to buy a long-lasting water-proof glue so you can sweat, work out, or swim.

3.    Not Cleaning the Frontal Often

Frontals expire too, but they expire faster if not maintained properly. Over time, the glue attracts dirt and changes the color of the frontal. This color change will be visible and causes the frontals to lose that natural look. Therefore, frontals should be washed once a week to make them look fresh and remove any excessive buildup. You can simply use an adhesive remover to remove the glue and shampoo the frontal to get rid of dirt.

4.    Wearing it too Often

Frontals look amazing, but wearing them too much can cause skin sensitivity. Constantly applying and removing frontals leads to irritated, sore skin that looks red or discolored. It also causes itchiness. If you notice any of these symptoms, you should be heading out to your dermatologist. Give yourself a break from frontals and switch to wigs that don’t require any glue.
